in a world in which Microsoft and Mozilla challenge each other for the supremacy of the browsing category, few people remember how this all started. One of Microsoft's attempts to stay close to its new rivals came a few years ago when the Redmond-based company rolled out Internet Explorer 7, a truly revamped version of the popular browser that has always been offered with the Windows operating system.
But Internet Explorer 7 has a completely new face as compared to its predecessors, many especially integrated to give it a chance against Firefox.
It was the first Internet Explorer version that came with tabbed browsing, although its features were seriously overwhelmed by those developed by Mozilla. Internet Explorer had no thumbnails displayed when the users moved the mouse cursor over a tab, Firefox had them. Internet Explorer was significantly slower than its rival, Firefox amazed everybody with its quick page loading times.
Nowadays, it's a known fact that Microsoft pays a lot more attention to its security features, but Internet Explorer was its first browser that came with a phishing filter supposed to protect users against fraudulent websites.
Just like in Firefox's case, the new Internet Explorer version came with a lot of improvements, including RSS feeds, open search extensions plus a better AJAX support and page zoom.
After trying so many browser, one thing is clear: Internet Explorer remains a top browser if you're a true Microsoft fan, but the market has so many goodies that you'd feel disappointed for sticking to this app.
